'Malvertisements' infect millions
An antivirus company recently released information regarding a slew of web advertisements embedded with malicious code. Simply visiting a site that displays one of these ads could potentially infect your PC.
Cnet.com reports that popular sites such as The New York Times, WhitePages.com, DrudgeReport.com and TechCrunch have all fallen victim to this form of phishing called “malvertising” over the past year.
Over the past four months Yahoo, Google, Fox and Myspace – some of the most popular sites on the web – have carried ads that have been responsible for nearly 2.6 million user infections amongst Avast Antivirus users alone.
