Dangerous delusions about e-mail and online safety
It is important to be aware of what online attackers are capable of. You are not always safe when:
- You view a message but don't click any links or download attachments
- You know the sender or are friends on Facebook
- You go to a link but don't click anything once you are there
- Your browser displays the locked keypad for security
Just because you know the sender, or the email looks authentic does not garuntee it is safe. Avoiding viruses and malicious software is not as easy as it seems. Be wary of posted links; attackers can also lurk in social media communities like Facebook and Twitter and can deceptively pose as friends that you know and trust. It has become hard to surf the web without constantly second guessing how secure everything is.
